DAVAO CITY---The Makati Football Club under-14 team, which is reinforced by a promising football player here, is set to face St. George Australia in the finals of the 2022 Malaysia Borneo Football Cup in Sabah, Malaysia at around 2 p.m. of October 4.

Makati FC got the slot in the finals after they beat Diklat Merden of Indonesia 1-0 in their semifinal duel on October 3.

Makati FC got the chance to play in the semifinals after they topped group B in the elimination round with an undefeated record of three wins after they beat fellow Filipino team Malaya FC 2-0 on the same day.

Makati FC, which tapped the services of Davaoenos Anthony Elorde, a member of Southshield FC, demolished the host Tabs Malaysia 2-0 on October 2.

On the same day, Makati FC also beat Football West Australia 3-2.

Last September 4, Makati FC finished in third place in the tough JSSL Singapore Professional Academy 7s football tournament.

The team had a decent showing in the elimination round but fell short in the knockout stage.

The team reached the semifinals but fell to Singapore Sports School 1-2.

Despite failing to get the coveted championship, the team is still pleased with their performance in the tournament, considered Asia’s premier youth football competition, showcasing the young talent of over 450 teams across 17 countries.

Elorde, who plays as a defender, played well in the tournament.

Elorde was trained under one of the top coaches in Davao City, Roland "Balot" Manabit, a former soccer varsity of the University of Mindanao. (Romeo Braceros, Jr.)
