The multi-event sports festival is an expression of the Philippine Sports Commission's renewed focus on grassroots initiatives.
In the 17 sports disciplines for in-person and online events, almost 6,000 delegates from 140 cities and municipalities across the country participated.
The PSC's initiatives are still motivated by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s interest in Filipino athletics.
Jose Emmanuel "Noli" Eala held a well-attended consultation meeting with members of 68 of 74 national sports associations on October 13 at the Philippine International Convention Center immediately following his appointment as PSC chairman.
Eala emphasized the importance of mutual respect between the agency and the NSAs and responsible autonomy anchored on the open administration of public funds.
Eala developed the framework for his administration's national sports strategy and outlined the agency's aims and initiatives.
Eala emphasized that it is also a primary goal to strengthen the connection with the Philippine Olympic Committee.
Along with deepening ties with the NSAs, Commissioner Olivia "Bong" Coo helped Eala reassure athletes about the PSC's ongoing assistance.
Under Eala's leadership, Filipino athletes excelled internationally.
Among these accomplishments is weightlifting phenom Hidilyn Diaz-gold Naranjo's medal triumph at the 2022 IWF World Weightlifting Championship in Bogota, Colombia; silver medalist from the Tokyo Olympics Carlo Paalam's gold medal triumph at the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan; Olympic gymnast Caloy Yulo's silver and bronze medal triumphs at the 51st FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships; and the exploits of new jiu-jitsu world champions Meggie Ochoa and Kimberly Anne Custodio.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
