DAVAO CITY—From June 18 to June 25, Davaoena spiker Faith Nisperos and her teammates from Akari will compete for the Philippine women's volleyball team in Indonesia at the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Challenge Cup for Women.

The former Ateneo Blue Eagle will be representing the Chargers alongside Eli Soyud, Erika Raagas, Michelle Cobb, Bang Pineda, and Ezra Madrigal before making her much-awaited professional debut on June 27 in the Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference.

On Thursday night, the squad will depart for Indonesia.

Under the direction of coach Jorge Souza de Brito, Nisperos, who chose to miss her final playing years in the UAAP, is also reconnecting with Ateneo teammates AC Miner and Roma Mae Doromal.

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas was also called up by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF), rejoining the national team after the Southeast Asian Games 2019. Djanel Cheng of Petro Gazz, Jules Samonte of PLDT, and Shaya Adorador of Foton will also compete.

Lia Pelaga and Riza Nogales of the University of the East, who participated in the national pool in January, will also represent the nation.

The Philippines is scheduled to play Macau in Pool A on June 19 and host Indonesia the following day.
Iran, Hong Kong, and Chinese Taipei make up Pool B. The only teams in Pool C are Australia and India, while Pool D has matches between Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Mongolia.

On June 24, the top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
