Angely Alferez made it to the squad that will compete against some of the top football teams in Southeast Asia, including Australia.
A Tagum Comprehensive High School student, Alferez is expected to provide spark and energy to the team.
The team feels confident coming into the game since their senior counterpart won the AFF Women's Championship.
The Philippine women’s football team made history again by winning their first major title in just six months by beating arch-rival Thailand 3-0 in the AFF Women’s Championship finals at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on July 17.
The winning goals for the team were provided by Jessika Cowart, Katrina Guillou, and Sarina Bolden, who scored her eighth goal in the tournament.
The win is also a form of payback by the Pinay against the Thais, who beat them in their semifinal duel in the last SEA Games.
In the AFF Women's Championship elimination rounds, the Thais beat the Pinays 1-0 to finish on top of Group A.
The Pinays got the slot to compete in the finals after beating defending champion Vietnam 4-0 in their semifinal duel on July 15 at the same venue.
The winning goals for the Pinays against Vietnam, the current SEA Games champion, were provided by team captain Tahnai Annis, Sarina Bolden, who made two goals, and Hali Long.
The win against Vietnam was sweet for the Pinay since they had never tasted a victory against the Vietnamese in the past few years. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
