DAVAO CITY---The 2023 Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championships were just held in Bangkok, Thailand, and the Philippine team came away with three gold and one bronze medal.

Meggie Ochoa, Annie Ramirez, and Dylan Chrystle Valmores won their respective divisions in the regional tournament, while Marc Alexander Lim had to settle for third place.

Ochoa, who defeated Singapore's May Yong in the finals by a score of 15-0, was unstoppable in the women's adult -48 kg division, and Ramirez, who defeated Kazakhstan's Galina Duvanova to win the title in the women's -57 kg division.

In contrast, Valmores announced her presence by dominating Thailand's Pornthip Chansonthi in the women's +70 kg.

Before Ochoa won, she defeated Kim Na Hyun of South Korea in the semifinals, Yahyi Sasithon of Thailand in the round of 16, and Le Thi My Hien of Vietnam in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Ramirez won the initial round before defeating Cassandra Poyong of Malaysia, Van Dang of Vietnam, and Lou Yi Bei of China.

Valmores, who defeated opponents like Pinki Sangwan of India, Assel Kabdygalymova of Kazakhstan, and Alia al Nahawi of Jordan en route to the finals, was equally overpowering.

On the other hand, Lim had to work hard in the losers' bracket to defeat Mongolia's Chinzorig Elbegsaikhan to win the bronze medal in the men's 69 kg.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
