In an interview, DTI-Davao City Director Rachel Remitio said they want to ensure the quality of these Christmas lights in the market because even if it is already mid-December there are still consumers who are buying it.
Remitio said during their inspection conducted last week, the enforcement team confiscated up to 254 pieces of Christmas lights that are not compliant with PS Mark and ICC Mark stickers as part of the standard set by the government.
“We all know that Christmas lights should have PS Mark and ICC Marks because these are the proof that these products undergo quality inspection,” she said.
She said these items were confiscated in a store in Cabantian where there are no stickers found and only placed in a clear plastic cellophane.
“We know if you buy uncertified Christmas lights, it will pose danger in your houses that might cause fire,” Remitio added.
Remitio is appealing to shoppers to look at the ICC or PS Mark stickers before buying Christmas lights.
She said the Christmas lights that are safe to buy are those that have PS or ICC Mark stickers dated 2015 and if it is dated earlier in the mentioned year this should not be sold in the market.
Remitio explained that every PS and ICC mark stickers have serial numbers so it is easy for their enforcement team to identify if the sticker is tampered or real.
