DAVAO CITY---Davao City-based chess players were the big winners in the FIDE Rated Invitational Chess Tournament held at the Panabo Chess Park in Panabo City, Davao del Norte, on April 22-24.
Region 11 chess players won the second to eighth placers in the money-rich tournament.
Davao City-based players John Ray Batucan and National Master Macacana Macala took the second and third places.
The top junior chess player in Region 11, Christian Gian Karlo Arca, got eighth place in the tournament participated in by some of the top chess players in the country.
Veteran tournament arbiter JoGen Palero is happy with the tournament's outcome sponsored by the city government of Panabo. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
