Senator Bong Go backs shelter repair efforts for earthquake-affected families in Davao Oriental
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go extended support to families affected by recent earthquake incidents in Davao Oriental through two separate assistance activities spearheaded by the national government, aimed at helping communities begin rebuilding their damaged homes

On Wednesday, January 21, Go’s team distributed grocery packs, pens, vitamins, and other essential items, to help address their immediate daily needs, held at the Barangay Cambaleon Covered Court in San Isidro, Davao Oriental. The activity benefited 30 affected residents from Barangay Cambaleon.

Local officials and partners present during the activity included Vice Mayor Sherlyn Casana, Councilor Sayki Buenaflor, and Barangay Cambaleon Captain Randy Brandino.

A similar distribution activity was conducted on Friday, January 23, at the Motorpool in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental, where 20 earthquake-affected residents received the same assistance from the Office of Senator Bong Go, and housing materials and shelter repair kits.

Participating in the second activity were Mayor Kulot Inojales, Shiela Jane Silverio of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), and Majylendy Casamayor of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO).

Go has consistently advocated for stronger disaster resilience measures in the country. He then proudly announced that the measure he principally authored and co-sponsored—Republic Act No. 12076, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act—had been enacted to institutionalize the construction of proper evacuation centers nationwide.

Halimbawa, ‘pag may sunog, ‘pag may baha, ‘pag may lindol, ‘pag pumutok ang bulkan,” explained Go in a video message.

Nagagambala pa ‘yung pag-aaral ng mga bata," he pointed out.

As a staunch advocate of disaster resilience, Go also renewed his call for the passage of his filed Senate Bill No. 173, which seeks to establish the Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR). If enacted into law, the department would centralize and streamline the government’s efforts in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.
