Senator Christopher “Bong” Go urged authorities, local government units, and the public to work closely together to ensure order, safety, and the well-being of participants throughout the multi-day religious gathering.
Go emphasized that large-scale religious events such as the January 9 Traslación must be embraced while still requiring disciplined coordination, clear crowd management protocols, and a shared sense of responsibility among devotees. He emphasized that safety should be viewed as a collective responsibility, not only by security forces and organizers, but also by those participating in the procession.
“Mahalaga ang pananampalataya, at kaakibat n’yan ang malasakit sa kapwa at kahalagahan ng pag-iingat. Kung lahat ay disiplinado at sumusunod sa panuntunan, mas magiging maayos at ligtas ang pagpapamalas ng ating pagsamba sa Diyos,” Go said.
The senator underscored the need for proactive measures such as medical readiness, traffic management, and real-time coordination among agencies on the ground, particularly during the Traslación on January 9, when crowd density reaches its peak. He noted that past incidents during major religious events highlight the importance of planning that anticipates risks along long processional routes and extended hours of activity.
“Asahan na natin ang dami ng tao, kaya dapat handa ang lahat. Ang simpleng pagsunod sa mga paalala ay malaking tulong para maiwasan ang aksidente,” he added.
Go also reminded devotees to prioritize their health and physical limits throughout the novena period from December 31 to January 8 and during the main feast day on January 9. He expressed that compassion and faith upholds personal safety, especially for senior citizens and individuals with existing medical conditions.
Go reiterated that orderly conduct is essential to preserving the sanctity of the occasion. He called on authorities to remain alert and responsive throughout the duration of the activities, from the opening of the novena up to the conclusion of the Traslación.
The Feast of the Black Nazarene, culminating on January 9, remains one of the country’s largest annual religious gatherings, drawing millions of devotees from across the Philippines. With crowds expected to reach extraordinary levels once again, officials and participants alike are being reminded that vigilance, cooperation, and mutual respect are crucial to ensuring a peaceful and safe observance.
