Sen. Bong Go aids grenade explosion victims in North Cotabato, calls for justice for the victims
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go’s Malasakit Team extended assistance to the victims of a grenade explosion in Barangay Dalapitan, Matalam, North Cotabato.
The incident occurred during the New Year’s Eve celebration on January 1, leaving several residents injured and in need of immediate medical attention.
Senator Go expressed deep concern over the incident and underscored the urgent need to strengthen the enforcement of arms and ammo laws against the unlawful discharge of firearms, illegal possession of explosives, and other deadly weapons. He stressed that public safety must remain a top priority, especially during community gatherings and celebrations.
“Hindi dapat malagay sa panganib ang buhay ng ating mga kababayan dahil sa iligal na paggamit ng armas at pampasabog. Kailangang mahigpit na ipatupad ang ating mga batas upang maiwasan ang ganitong trahedya. Dapat walang makalusot, kailangang mabigyan ng hustisya ang mga biktima. Justice must be served,” Go said.
As of writing, one of the two suspects was killed in a police operation on the night of January 1.
Through the Malasakit Team, the affected individuals received financial assistance to help cover their medical expenses. The distribution of aid was coordinated with Barangay Dalapitan Chairman Edwin Garcia and PLt. Bonnel Cabuyao, Deputy Chief of Police of Matalam, to ensure that the 24 victims receive timely and proper support.
As Vice Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Senator Go continues to champion programs that strengthen the country’s healthcare system and ensure accessible medical services for all Filipinos. He has been instrumental in pushing for the establishment of Malasakit Centers, Super Health Centers, and Regional Specialty Centers.
Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop where concerned agencies are brought under one roof to ensure that medical assistance programs are within the reach of indigent Filipinos. The program is institutionalized under Republic Act No. 11463, which he principally authored and sponsored. Since its establishment, the 167 Malasakit Centers to date have helped more than 17 million Filipinos nationwide, according to the Department of Health.
Through the concerted efforts of Go, fellow lawmakers, the DOH led by Secretary Teodoro “Ted” Herbosa, and local government units, adequate funding was allocated for establishing more than 700 Super Health Centers nationwide.
Meanwhile, the Regional Specialty Centers Act, or RA 11959 which he also pushed for as one of the authors and the principal sponsor, aims to bring specialized medical services to Filipinos.
Senator Go assured the victims and their families that the government remains ready to assist them, especially during emergencies and unforeseen incidents. He also called on the public to celebrate responsibly and remain vigilant to prevent similar accidents in the future.
“Sa abot ng aking makakaya, patuloy akong tutulong dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo at naniniwala ako na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo sa Diyos,” Go concluded.
