Duterte wants to address challenges on workers’ rights
President Rodrigo R. Duterte joined the nation Sunday in honoring the country’s workers to mark Labor Day.

In his message, Duterte said the occasion is a reminder to overcome the challenges confronting Filipino laborers such as workers’ rights and other hurdles that may stunt their growth and development.

The President said he recognized the qualities of Filipino workers, whom he said, are known for the great passion, integrity and professionalism they demonstrate in everything that they do.

“These qualities have not only brought economic gains to our country, but have also been a source of immense pride and encouragement among our people,” he said.

He said for these reasons, he welcomed this yearly occasion with much fervor.

"On this day, we are given the chance to celebrate all the triumphs and progress that the labor movement has accomplished over the years,” he said.

Duterte said the government is reminded to overcome the challenges by recognizing the rights of the workers and reassessing the systems that may hinder their growth and development.

With only two months before stepping down from power, Duterte said, the  government would remain committed to providing the people with the opportunities they need to realize their full potential.

He also expressed hope that this year’s Labor Day celebration recharges everyone as Filipinos continue to work for themselves, their families and the nation.
