The City Government of Davao, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare Development turned over the Project Lawa and Binhi to residents of Toril District on January 28.

The Project Lawa and Binhi is part of the agenciesโ€™ sustainable livelihood program that aims to further the poverty alleviation efforts of the government.

A total of 250 residents from Barangays Bato, Catigan, Tagluno, and Sibulan benefit from the project that consisted of fishponds with free Tilapia fingerlings from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, as well as plant seedlings from the City Agriculturistโ€™s Office and the Department of Agriculture.

In Barangay Catigan, two fishponds were turned over to the community. The project also occupied around 8.9 hectares of land planted with numerous crops including coconuts, native coffee, and rubber trees.

Jonaire Concepcion, DSWDโ€™s Project Development Officer, in an interview with the City Information Office said the beneficiaries of the Project Lawa at Binhi are members of the marginalized sector, persons with disability (PWDs), solo parents, senior citizens, and Indigenous Peoples (IPs).

Anna Liza Mansilagan, one of the beneficiaries, said the project provides them livelihood.

โ€œKani nga project diri sa CSWDO ug DSWD, dako gyud kaayo ni siyaโ€™ng tabang. Multi-sectoral ni siya, ang mga members diri is multi-sectoral naay naggikan sa  mga womenโ€™s, naaโ€™y naggikan sa solo parents parehas nako, naaโ€™y farmers, naaโ€™y PWDs ,โ€ she said.

โ€œTungod ani nga project nagkaroon sila og hope, naaโ€™y hope ba nga in time naa na silaโ€™y magiging source of income, " she added.

Teresita Obang, outgoing district overseer of CSWDO Toril-B district, also assured that the city government, through the CSWDO, will continue to support the community.

โ€œAng atoa gyuโ€™ng commitment sa City Government of Davao kay ang paghatag gโ€™yud sa atoang 100 percent full support kauban ang atoang partner agencies aron sa paghatag og kalambuan ug kaayuhan sa atoang mga benepisyaryo ug sa mga umaabot pa nga mu-benefit ani nga project,โ€ she said.

Around 30 barangays in the city, especially those in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) in Marilog District, Paquibato District, Toril District, and Calinan District, have benefited from the Project Lawa at Binhi.

The City Government of Davao continues to provide programs, projects, and services that cater to all Dabawenyos to ensure the growth and development of every community. CIO
