TOYM is an annual national recognition given to Filipinos ages 18 to 40 years old who have made significant contributions to their field or community. The award is organized yearly by Junior Chamber International (JCI) Philippines with the support of the TOYM Foundation, as well as other partners and stakeholders.
This year’s TOYM theme is “Excellence in Action, Building a Better Tomorrow.”
Hannah Chloe Cano, national chairperson TOYM 2025 says in the history of the search there are only a few honorees coming from Mindanao.
“For the past 66 years, you are talking 600 honorees but in that number there are only less than 30 coming from Mindanao and only five from Davao City,” Cano said.
Being the first TOYM awards national chairperson coming from Davao City, Cano hopes that they can get more awardees coming from the city and or the region.
“I believe that it is high time we nominate our young outstanding men and women who have stories to tell, who are doing extraordinary work,” Cano said.
Among the TOYM honorees from Mindanao included the late House Speaker Prospero Boy Nograles, boxing champ and former Senator Manny Pacquiao, educator and Ramon Magsaysay Awards recipient Randy Halasan, former Sarangani Governor Miguel Dominguez.
Dabawenya photographer Hyku Desesto who gained acclaim for her photography work in Dubai was a TOYM honoree in 2023, the first Dabawenya TOYM was recognized as an OFW empowerment advocate.
Cano said they would work double time to promote TOYM in the region by enlisting the help of media and different partner organizations.
“I think kulang lang talaga siya ng cascading ng information sa media and sa mga agencies, we are also institutions such as the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines), DepED (Department of Education). If you have somebody you feel that is worth nominating please send those nominations,” Cano said.
The nominations for the 66th TOYM is now open and those who would want to nominate they can visit the TOYM Philippines official Facebook page– https://www.facebook.com/TheOutstandingYoungMenPH where they can be guided on the nomination process including the links for pre-nomination forms.
Cano says for those who have someone they want to nominate, they can partner with local JCI organizations near their locality or they can contact the TOYM which can link them to these JCI organizations. (PIA/RGA)
