On Friday, October 11, Go's Malasakit Team coordinated with Vice Governor Tyron Uy and extended assistance to indigent residents of Mabini, Davao de Oro, as part of his ongoing efforts to bring relief to struggling communities and support their path toward recovery.
In his message, Go emphasized the importance of government support in revitalizing local economies, particularly in rural areas. He vowed to push for more programs that will provide economic opportunities, helping communities bounce back and achieve long-term stability.
“Kailangan nating magtulungan upang masiguro na walang maiiwan sa ating pagbangon,” Go added, underscoring his dedication to uplifting struggling sectors by enhancing access to livelihood programs.
During the relief event at Barangay San Antonio gymnasium, Go’s Malasakit Team distributed items such as snacks, shirts, vitamins, and masks to 145 displaced workers. Select beneficiaries also received shoes, a watch, a mobile phone, sling bags, and basketballs — an initiative aligned with Go’s advocacy to promote health and fitness in communities as Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Sports.
With the support of the senator, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) provided temporary employment through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.
“Tayo ay magtulungan at magmalasakit sa bayan. Ang pagkakaisa at pagtutulungan ay susi sa ating pagbangon. Ako ay patuloy nag magseserbisyo sa abot ng aking makakaya dahil yan ang aking bisyo, ang magserbisyo,” Mr. Malasakit said, reiterating his dedication to bringing sustainable growth and development to communities.
As a lawmaker, Go filed Senate Bill No. 420, which advocated establishing a system to provide short-term employment opportunities to eligible individuals from disadvantaged rural households. Under the proposed legislation, the Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP) would be established to provide temporary employment options to individuals who qualify based on criteria such as economic hardship, poverty, displacement, or seasonal employment.
To further ease the financial burden on Filipino families, Go also co-authored and co-sponsored SBN 2534, which aims to raise the daily minimum wage by P100 nationwide.
"Patuloy po tayong magtulungan upang mas mapabuti pa ang kalagayan ng ating mga disadvantaged at displaced workers. Magkasama tayo sa layuning ito na makabuo ng mas maginhawa at mas matatag na lipunan para sa lahat ng Pilipino," Go said.
