Davao City Vice Mayor Jay Melchor Quitain Jr., who led the tour of the renovated areas of the SP building on Tuesday, said that this is to remind Dabawenyos about the 11 tribes all year round and not just during Kadayawan.
He also thanked the 11 tribes for donating their tribe's tapestry.
This is the first time in 29 years that the Session Hall underwent a comprehensive renovation.
The new session hall also now has a new LED Wall, sound system, new swivel chairs, new and reinstalled air conditioning units, UV Printed Sangguniang Panlungsod logo, and audience chairs.
City Architect's Office Officer-In-Charge Architect Clyde Eric C. Verga said in an interview that in designing the session hall, they did not consider the aesthetic but the "acoustics".
"We designed the session hall with the acoustics as the main focus," Verga said, adding that they made sure the walls and ceiling could absorb sound well and that speakers at the session hall could be heard well and properly communicate.
On the other hand aside from the Session Hall, Quitain also showed and presented to the media the SP Lobby with significant renovations in floor tiles, ceiling, and the addition of a roll-up door. Additionally, a large ceiling fan was also installed which can benefit clients and visitors of the SP Building.
The SP Lobby, as well as other floors of the building, now have new fire detection and alarm systems.
Quitain also showed the much-improved version of the Gallery of Legislators located on the second floor, which received support from the Office of Congressmen Vicent Garcia of the 2nd District of Davao City, who provided pictures of past City Officials.
The space vacated by the Old City Library on the third floor was also renovated and now includes a new conference room for the Members of the City Council and VIPs, Musalla/Prayer Room, storage rooms, City Information and Technology Center (CITC) and Sanguniang Panglungsod server rooms, pantry with storage and conference console room for sound system operation, SP Supply storage room, SP Records Section room, SP City Archives and Records Office (CARO) Archives Room, utility room, and new comfort rooms.
Meanwhile, Sangguniang Panlungsod's newest feature is the transfer of the bulletin board, which was initially located on the gap between the flight of stairs from the first and second floors. Near the original spot of the bulletin board is a set of photos that shows the transformation of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Quitain said he is hopeful that maybe one day, schoolchildren will go to the SP and learn about the history of the place through these new installations.
A painting was also donated by a Davao Artist and can be seen at the entrance of the session hall. CIO
