DAVAO CITY - The authorities have confiscated up to P4.7 million million worth of suspected smuggled cigarettes and arrested two at the city’s entry point in Brgy Lacson, Calinan District, this city on Friday, (Mar. 22).
Task Force Davao spokesman Major John Louie Dema-ala said the shipment of contraband was seized while the suspects who were on onboard a gray Mazda close van bearing Plate# NFK 8239 travelling towards the city.
Arrested were Edgar Cañas Benondo, 32 and Johnrey Sinoy, 30, both residents of Kiblawan, Davao del Sur.
Confiscated in their possession were 150 boxes of illegal cigarettes with 50 reams per box.
TF Davao Commander Colonel Darren E. Comia thanked Dabawenyos for the support and cooperation, especially in the implementation of the city’s culture of security campaign.
Comia said the seizure of the contraband was made possible due to a tip from a concerned citizen who reported the said illegal transport.
The suspects and the illegal items were immediately turned over to the Bureau of Internal Revenue for filing of charges in violation of National Internal Revenue Code of 1997, as amended.
