Over 1K Muslims gather for Pabuka 2025
The Local Government of Davao City hosted the Pabuka 2025 at the Grand Menseng Hotel on Monday, April 7, bringing together over 1,000 Muslims to celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The event, organized in partnership with the Davao City Centralized Eid Prayer Council and the Office of the City Muslim Affairs, was intended to strengthen unity and foster gratitude within the community.

With the theme "Eid’l Fitr: A celebration of gratitude through solidarity and integrity,” the event featured a meal and a short program reflecting on the significance of Ramadan.

Gabriel Nakan, Chairman of the Council of 11 Tribal Deputy Mayors of the Davao City Muslim Affairs Office, emphasized the importance of Pabuka as a platform for promoting cultural understanding and strengthening community ties within the Muslims in the city.

He shared that the event has been an annual tradition since the time of Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte as mayor, and serves as a reminder of the city government’s continued support for the Muslim community.

“Ang highlight ani is ma-remember gyud nato nga wala ta gipasagdan sa city government of Davao nga every year nga naa gyud ni siya’y pahalipay. Every year pod niya ipa-feel nga wala’y discrimination diri, kundili tanan equal (The highlight of this (event) is that we remember how the city government of Davao has never neglected us. Every year, Mayor Baste gives us presents and assures us that there is no discrimination here—all are treated equally),” he said.

Nakan also noted several programs initiated by the city government that have greatly benefited the Muslim community. These include the creation of Deputy Mayors to amplify their voices, the distribution of food packs at the start and middle of Ramadan, and the development of a Muslim cemetery.

This year alone, approximately 36,000 families, or around 100,000 to 120,000 individuals, received food packs during Ramadan.

Pabuka 2025 continues to serve as a platform of unity and gratitude, showcasing the city government’s unwavering commitment to its diverse communities. CIO
