Ordinance rewarding biz hiring seniors, PWDs pushed

Davao City Councilor Lorenzo Benjamin Villafuerte said he is working with stakeholders for the passage of an ordinance that will incentivize business establishments hiring senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Villafuerte, Chairperson of the Committee on Social Services, said during the Pulong Pulong sa Dabawenyos media forum on Tuesday, that two committee hearings on the ordinance had already been held. It aims to offer tax deductions for establishments that will hire senior citizens or PWDs.

"We will have separate a meeting to finalize the deductions," he said.

The meeting will be attended by representatives from the City Treasurer's Office, City Legal Office,

and the Persons with Disability Affairs Office.

Villafuerte said that they aim to pass the ordinance before the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week, which starts on July 17, 2026.

He said that the ordinance will bolster the existing Special Employment Program for Senior Citizens and PWDs that already has a number of eligible beneficiaries.

He said that with the support of the executive branch for programs for the senior citizens and PWDs, he believes that the 21st Davao City Council will support the passage of the ordinance.  CIO
