NORDECO gets P14 share from MCOs electric bill
Northern Davao Electric Cooperative only gets 14 percent or P14 out of the total amount of the monthly electric bill, which each Member Consumer Owner (MCO) pays to the electric cooperative.

The P14 pesos will cover Nordeco’s distribution supply and metering charge. Nordeco posted in its official Facebook Page recently.

The electric cooperative made the clarification in view of its increased power rate resulting from the continuing global fuel price hike.

Jolly Ann Kuan, the corporate planning department manager of Nordeco in an interview with media recently explained Nordeco imposed an average of 3.3percent increase in its power rate for the month of April due to the increase of prices also imposed by power generators where Nordeco buys power and by the National Grid Corporation of the Phil. (NGCP) for transmission charges.

“The power rate increase of Nordeco depends on two factors such as how much is the bill per kilowatt hour (kwh) being charged by our power suppliers and depending on the increase imposed by the suppliers and NGCP,” she said adding that the power suppliers and NGCP increase their prices almost monthly recently due to the constant increase of fuel price in the international market.

She explained that the power suppliers and NGCP use fuel to generate power and transmission, respectively.

“Nordeco’s power rate changes every month because of the variable charges imposed by our power suppliers which are mostly coal power plants, the biggest portion of which is fuel cost because they are using fuel to run their power plants. Nordeco is only a distribution electric cooperative,” she said.

The 3.3 percent increase for April she said covers P0.47 per kwh for residential consumers; P0.41 for low voltage consumers, and P0.42 for high voltage consumers.

“If the consumption for residential reaches 100 kwh, there will be an increase of P47.07 pesos in the bill; if the consumption reaches 200 kwh, the increase is P94.14, “ Kuan pointed out.

Nordeco in its Facebook announcement clarified that of the total bill,  71percent or P71 pesos goes to generation charge;  15 percent or P15for government tax and other charges; and 14 percent or P14 for Nordeco(distribution and metering charges).

In view of the continuing power rate increase, Kuan advised Nordeco’s MCOs to observe power saving to lessen their monthly consumption.

“Regulating the use of electricity in our respective homes an dbusinesses is the only way to avoid the burden of paying costly monthly power bills,” she said.
