The City Government of Davao, in partnership with the public and private sectors, led the official opening of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Week during the weekly flag ceremony on Monday.

Acting Davao City Administrator and Chair of the Davao City MSME Development Council, Atty. Francis Mark Layog announced the official opening of the MSME Week with the theme: Innovate to Elevate: Empowering MSMEs for Sustainable Growth.

In his speech, Layog thanked the Department of Trade and Industry for organizing the MSME week activities, and also thanked the support of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Incorporated (DCCCII) and other members of the MSME Development Council for all the activities and events that will run from July 8-14.

Layog said the week-long event will be conducted for the growth of MSMEs, which play a huge role in the city's development.

He noted that MSMEs are also an essential part of the 12-point priority agenda of the administration of Mayor Sebastian Duterte.

"This MSME development week will have various trainings, seminars, and a trade fair that will feature speakers of the tech industry in the hopes of empowering  our MSMEs to be more competitive in this highly digitalized world," he said.

"May we continue to work together to ensure that this MSME development week is a success," Layog added.

Meanwhile, DCCCII President Belinda L. Torres said in her speech that the City of Davao celebrates the profound contribution of the MSMES which make up most of all the business of the Philippines by over 90 percent, which means that they contribute in generating more than 65 percent of the nation's total employment in 2022.

Torres said that empowering MSMEs stimulates growth, generates growth and contributes to the overall well being of the society.

"MSME week shall bring together private and public sector partners whose collaborative efforts are ultimately for the benefit and empowerment of our micro small and medium enterprises in overcoming challenges of today's competitive business landscape," Torres said.

She invited everyone to take part in the weeklong celebration, especially during the capacity building events, and the trade fair at SM Lanang Atrium from July 12-14.
