According to the Davao City Police Office, the incident occured during heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Initial investigation disclosed that due to heavy rain, the victims seek shelter to the nipa hat owned by Lito Genado Ansang at said place and while they were inside the house, a strong lightning struck the shelter.
The victims suffered burn injuries but two of them, Emma Ansang Bansilan, 49 yrs old and Nenita Ansang Noa, 53, were declared dead on arrival by the responding medical teams from Central 911.
Arlyn Urayan Dalagma, 49, who was severely injured remained hospital confinement alongside Lito Genando Ansang, 60; Jerry Embac Ogaw, 44; Rowena Ambit Larisa, 46; Joel Cabanda Ansang, 30; Noeme Nord Altubar, 58; and Mila Cervantes Monoy, 20.
