DAVAO CITY- Two former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) received scholarship assistance from the provincial Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of Davao de Oro on Tuesday (Nov. 12).

The Philippine Army’s 1001st Infantry Brigade based in Maco, Davao de Oro who witnessed the successful hand-over of scholarship assistance to beneficiaries said the scholarship grant worth P90,000 each were given to aliases Dandan and Ria.

These NPA surrenderers were a former secretary of the dismantled NPA Guerilla Front 2 (DGF 2) of SRC2, SMRC and former member of the Regional Instructors Bureau, SMRC, respectively.

The funds aimed at supporting their educational pursuits as part of the E-CLIP reintegration program were personally handed over by Jake Caiman, Provincial Administrator and Josephine Frasco, head of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).

The 1001st Brigade said the assistance is part of a broader initiative of the provincial government to aid the reintegration of FRs into mainstream society.

It is intended for the FRs who enrolled in the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation (ETTEAP), an educational assessment program of the Commission on Higher Education.

Additionally, the FRs also received their DILG E-CLIP package of assistance that cost P65,000 last February 20, 2024.

Both Dandan and Ria enrolled in the E-CLIP program hoping to rebuild their lives after their difficult pasts in 2022 and 2021.

E-CLIP is a national program spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), designed to assist former rebels in their transition to civilian life by offering a comprehensive package of benefits, including financial assistance, livelihood programs, housing, and educational opportunities.
