Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) 87.5 in an FM band has celebrated its third year of operation since it was launched on February 3, 2020 by the city government.
First District councilor Temujin “Tek” Ocampo who authored a resolution commending the said radio station, acknowledges its vital role as an information , education and communication channel for Davaoeños.
“It relayed crucial information through radio and social media to communities across Davao during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic by hosting live broadcasts with former Davao City Mayor and current Vice President Sara Duterte on the latest Covid updates and restrictions for the city, enabling a much more rapid response,” Ocampo said.
In his speech during the regular session of the City Council Tuesday (Feb. 8), Ocampo said the city operated broadcast station serves as an emergency-centric community station with a purpose of disseminating vital information on disasters and emergency preparedness.
He said, since it existed, DCDR consistently executed its duty, relaying crucial information through radio and social media to communities across Davao.
“As someone from the media, it is a momentous occasion to see new radio stations flourish and adapt to modern times,” Ocampo said.
Meanwhile, on Monday (Feb. 6), the city inaugurated a P6.18 million, 200 feet monopole tower in Purok 3, Barangay Langub, this city that made the signal of the DCDR cover the whole of Davao City and reaches nearby provinces.
Mayor Sebastian Duterte who led the inauguration encouraged Davao offices to use and utilize the radio station in relaying important information to Davaoeños.
"Gamita ninyo ang radio kay ang pinaka-importante ma-disseminate ang information labi na sa balaod aron dili maglalis para makasabot gyud unsa ang gusto sa gobyerno ug unsa ang kinahanglan sundon sa tao,” he said.
Duterte underscores that information dissemination is very important in knowing the direction of the government for the people of Davao as a whole.
City Information Office (CIO) head, Harvey Lanticse, meanwhile said, the inauguration and ceremonial switch on symbolizes the continuity of commitment of the DCDR to Davaoeños and now to wider areas outside the city.
DCDR's signal can already reach the whole of Davao City, even as far as Marilog and Paquibato and nearby provinces.
Other areas include Island Garden City of Samal, Panabo City, Carmen, Sto. Tomas, Tagum City, a portion of Mawab, Davao de Oro, a portion of Nabunturan, Maco, Mabini, Pantukan, a portion of Lupon, Davao Oriental, Sta.
