UAE Ambassador to the Philippines, Mohammed Obaid Alqattam Aizaabi personally turned over the goods which is approximately equivalent to 5,000 family food packs (FFPs), to disaster-hit residents in the province in a ceremony held at Barangay Elizalde, Maco on Sunday (Mar. 17).
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Davao de Oro Governor Dorothy Montejo-Gonzaga, and 1001st Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier General Felix Ronnie B Babac accompanied Aizaabi in said activity.
Gatchalian said the 5,000 boxes of family food packs filled with essential items and non-perishable goods would be distributed to the beneficiaries in coordination with the Provincial Government and the Municipality of Maco.
“The UAE government itself approached us and went to our office and informed us that they want to extend help to the calamity victims,” Gatchalian said.
The aid for Davao de Oro is the first of a multiple of assistance to be provided by the UAE to the Philippines.
Gatchalian, meanwhile, thanked the Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division based in Mawab, Davao de Oro for their steadfast dedication to supporting the DSWD's relief operations.
"If there would be no 10th ID, it would be difficult for us to deliver these goods. We prepared inputs, goods, and made sure it will be sent to the beneficiaries," he said.
10th ID Commander Major General Allan D Hambala reaffirms their support and duty towards the agency's relief efforts and ensures that aid reaches every affected community in Davao de Oro and other parts of the Davao Region.
