In a bid to create a local office that will specifically cater to the needs of Muslims within the city, and promote equality and unity among Dabawenyos, the city government created the Davao City Muslim Affairs Office under the Office of the City Mayor, providing for its organizational structure and defining its functions.

The new office was created on June 6, 2024, under Executive Order No. 19 Series of 2024.

Section 1 of the EO states that the DCMAO shall be composed of the deputy mayors of each of the Muslim groups in Davao City. It shall be attached to the Barangay and Cultural Communities Affairs Division under the Office of the City Mayor, which shall oversee its day-to-day functions.

Section 2 of the EO states that there shall be one deputy mayor for each of the Muslim Tribes namely, Iranun, Kagan, Sama, Maguindanaon, Maranao, and Tausug to be appointed by the City Mayor.

The Deputy Mayors shall manage the DCMAO, which shall be the primary office to execute the instructions, programs, and projects of the City Government to promote the welfare, growth, and development of Muslim communities in the city. The appropriate number of personnel shall be assigned or hired by the DCMAO to ensure its functionality, subject to the availability of funds. 

Based on Section 4 of the EO, the DCMAO shall act as the primary agency of the City Government of Davao in ensuring the preservation and development of the culture, traditions, institutions, and well-being of Muslim residents of Davao City. Subject to the existing laws, rules regulations, and guidelines provided by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), the DCMAO will perform its duties and functions as stated in the EO.

Section 5 of the EO states that the DCMAO shall have a regular meeting every first Monday of the month unless modified by Deputy Mayors through a proper resolution. 

Section 6 also provides for the creation of the Davao City Muslim Sectoral Council (DCMSC), which shall be under the control and supervision of the DCMAO.

It shall be composed of the deputy mayors and the appointed sectoral representatives composing the following sectors: youth, council elders, women, Islamic religious representatives following the Mufti of Region 11, business, special concerns for children, Muslim education, and Balik Islam.

The EO also provides the criteria for the selection of the sectoral representatives. (CIO)
