TOYM is an annual national recognition awarded to Filipinos, 18 to 40 years old, who have made significant contributions to their fields and their communities, organized by Junior Chambers International (JCI) Philippines with the support of the TOYM Foundation.
First District Councilor Tek Ocampo, proponent of the resolution said that Dubai’s well-known photographers, Khrista Francis “Hyku” Desesto, was named as one of the honorees for the 2023 Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) Awards and was recognized as an OFW empowerment advocate.
Desesto was born and raised in Davao City and the only child of former PTV-11 Davao cameraman Tong Desesto and wife, Hydie.
The acclaimed Dabawenya photographer is currently the owner of Hyku D. Photography and Videography, a Dubai-based professional photography and videography studio whose list of clients includes big multinational brands such as Netflix, Vogue Arabia, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Adidas, Mastercard, and Dubai Fashion Week, to name a few.
She has also worked with A-list celebrities such as supermodel Gigi Hadid, pop superstar Mariah Carey, and Hollywood actresses Eva Longoria and Lindsay Lohan.
According to Ocampo, Desesto’s achievements in business have merited her recognition and various honors.
Among these accolades are being named Photographer of the Year by the Filipino Times and Xpedition Magazine, being listed among the 100 Most Influential Filipinos in the Gulf by Ilustrado Magazine, and being named one of Dubai’s Coolest Female Entrepreneurs by Harper’s Bazaar Arabia.
Her TOYM award and achievements highlight the depth of Dabawenyo talent and demonstrate that Dabawenyos truly excel anywhere, showcasing a level of excellence that we can all be proud of, Ocampo said.
