Cotabateños have the chance to either enjoy watching or participating in various activities that showcase the developments of the province and its people over the years. The agricultural products displayed at the Kalivungan Tiangge with the theme Yaman ng Cotabato proved how the province has grown and progressed in decades. Kalivungan Tiangge together with the Drum Lyre Competition marked the official opening of the Kalivungan Festival on Aug. 25.
Cotabato Governor Emmylou “Lala” Taliño-Mendoza said the Kalivungan Festival symbolizes unity among Cotabateños and thanksgiving for prosperity as well.
“Kalivungan Festival is a symbol of unity among families despite our diverse culture. It is a celebration of a bountiful harvest in the entire province, Mendoza said at the opening of the festivity. “Understanding and unity among the different tribes in Cotabato is the key to development,” she said.
To sustain the abundance, Mendoza assured to continue putting into action her advocacy for true service “Serbisyong Totoo” through the implementation of projects that will truly benefit the Cotabateños.
Other activities include the Museyo Kutawato Fest which kicked off on Sunday (Aug. 27). The museum showcases the history, tradition, and culture of the three tribes of Cotabato: Christians, Muslims, and Indigenous People.
Mendoza who graced the opening has attributed Cotabato’s development to the unity of the three tribes. She finds it worthwhile to impart Cotabato’s history to the young generation to help them understand the province's diverse customs and traditions.
Kavurunan Festival Cultural Show of the Indigenous People (IP) was also held in the municipality of Carmen. It is part of the Kalivungan Festival to recognize the IPs contribution and significance to the province's development.
Most of the sports activities including Basketball tournament, shoot fest, off-road competition, mountain bike challenge, chess tournament, Karatedo tournament, dart tournament, street dancing, and the like are being held in strategic municipalities.
