DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista together with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Vice President Sara Duterte, Special Assistant to the President Antonio Ernesto Lagdameo Jr., Presidential Assistant for Eastern Mindanao Leo Tereso Magno, and other members of the cabinet were present during the signing held at Waterfront Insular Hotel in Lanang, this city.
Marcos in his speech said that the signing of the last phase before the implementation of the DPTMP is a "strong reaffirmation of the government to develop Davao Region."
“It is a demonstration of our resolve to deliver what people in all regions deserve: a mass transportation system that can move commuters and commerce efficiently,” the President said.
He said the DPTMP will be a game changer in the transportation system of the country.
“This project will become the template for public transport systems in other cities in our country,” he said.
As a mass transport system, this people mover will provide faster and more comfortable commutes whilst decongesting streets filled with private vehicles, and improve road traffic, he said.
Marcos also ordered DOTr and Department of Finance to secure the needed funding for the shelved Tagum-Davao-Digos railway project.
He also called on all the government agencies to work hand in hand, especially on the infrastructure building after the recent flooding in Davao Region.
"The infrastructure we are building must not only wipe out the arrears of the past, but must respond to the needs of the present and anticipate the future," he said.
He said , the DPTMP is envisioned in the same mold of breaking barriers, enhancing accessibility, and boosting productivity.
The DPTMP will field 400 articulated battery electric buses and more than 500 diesel buses with 29 interconnected routes around the locality.
Marcos commended the efforts of the DOTr to continuously improve the transportation system of the country.
