City ENRO taps barangays for solid waste management program
The Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) has partnered with barangays in Davao City for the efficient hauling of garbage and also in catching violators of the Solid Waste Management Act.

CENRO Environmental Waste Management Division Head Engr. Lakandiwa R. Orcullo, during the I-Speak Media Forum on Thursday, bared that more than 40 barangays have provided trucks to transport garbage to the sanitary landfill.

"Forty-five barangays ang nag respond sa amoang call na magprovide sa ilang truck para mu-augment [the hauling]. Wala man mi niundang og kolekta sa basura, usahay dili man gud namo mahurot gyud. As much as possible pwede na sila na ang muhatod og mulabay sa sanitary landfill, " he said.

Orcullo said that the city government rents 107 trucks that haul garbage in addition to the 15 compactor trucks they have.

Orcullo said that barangays are also active in apprehending violators and that they have citation tickets.

For 2024, CENRO issued citation tickets to 4,765 apprehended violators of City Ordinance No. 0361-10 or the Davao City Ecological Solid Waste Management Ordinance of 2009.  Of these violators, 3,638 offenders paid the fine while 15 others have settled their obligations by  rendering community services.

Cases were filed for those who were unable to settle their citation tickets, Orcullo said.

He said that their office continues to remind the barangays about the basic principles of garbage and waste segregation through information and education drives.

Orcullo believes that Dabawenyos in general will continue to cooperate with the solid waste management and embody the 'Dabawenyos DCPlinado'.

"I believe we can still do more, panindigan gyud nato atong pagka-Dabawenyo DCPlinado," he said.  CIO
