Apo Agua in a statement said it made the decision following setbacks in the timetable for the construction of the project due to complications brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and other contributing internal factors.
Prior to this development, the project’s Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Contractor, J.V. Angeles Construction Corporation had full responsibility for the construction works.
With Apo Agua in the lead, it would aggressively pursue as many construction workstreams as possible, in parallel with each other, as the main catch-up strategy, the statement said.
Despite a very tight timetable, Apo Agua said it is targeting to complete the project by the end of 2022, considering a swift and seamless transition.
The project speaks of a shift from the current groundwater wells as source of potable water in the city to treated water from the surface water of Tamugan River.
A first in the country, the water treatment facility, which will touch base in barangay Gumalang, Baguio District here in Davao City will be powered by renewable energy sourced from hydroelectric power plant.
Former President Rodrigo Duterte graced the ceremonial construction kick-off in November 26, 2018.
“I always believe access to safe water is fundamental right that must be enjoyed by Filipinos to be able to live a dignified and productive life,” the former President said.
