More than 8,000 security forces have been tasked to provide security for a safe, orderly, and peaceful Araw ng Dabaw celebration.
City Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte who led the sendoff ceremony thanked all the security and safety personnel present for their efforts in the coming days.
PSSO head Angel Sumagaysay in an interview said a total of 8,415 personnel are tasked to secure the whole duration of the Araw ng Dabaw which will start on Friday (Mar.1).
Sumagaysay said bulk of the deployment is intended for the Parada Dabawenyo and the Mutya ng Dabaw.
He said events with special permits that will be held within March will be given security deployment.
“We also included events which have special mayor's permit and events that gather a large number of people, which also oblige us to add more personnel,” Sumagaysay said in a report from the City Information Office.
He said his office conducted security coordination meetings with the City Tourism Operations Office on board to prepare for the Araw events.
The PSSO, as a member of the Araw ng Dabaw Execom, will also be providing updates on security matters during the meetings.
The same security restrictions implemented in the past, such as no backpacks and big bags, no laser lights, no bomb jokes, no firearms, and no littering, will be followed.
Bringing sharp objects, drinking alcoholic beverages, and smoking in public places are also prohibited.
Dabawenyos are also advised not to bring infants and small children during any event and are also advised to take off their jackets and sunglasses upon going through inspection areas.
Malacañang earlier declared March 1, 2024,as an official holiday in Davao City.
