300 students list up for EBSU scholarship
The Educational System Benefit Unit records around 300 applicants, barely a week after the start of registration.

EBSU Technical Assistant Emilio Domingo Jr. said during the I-Speak Media forum held on June 6, 2024, at the City Mayor's Office Conference Room, that many students were able to register through EBSU's online application system. 

"Actually naa man gud ta'y list of priority courses mao nang dili kayo daghan sila, karon palang we have almost 300 nga ni-apply (Actually we have a list of priority courses that's there aren't many applications and as of the latest we have almost 300 applicants who have applied)," Domingo said.

He said that reports of difficulty in accessing the EBSU application site in the first two days had already been addressed and resolved. 

Domingo said that they are targeting to accept more or less 300 scholarship applications for the school year 2024-2025. They would be replacing the 2023-2024 scholars who have graduated. 

As of the latest, 257 scholars were confirmed to have euther graduated and the EBSU expects this to increase as more scholars may graduate in July or August. 

Domingo said that as of May 24, 2024, 34 EBSU scholars were able to graduate with high honors. Three of them are Summa Cum Laude, 16 are Magna Cum Laude, and 15 are Cum Laude. 

Domingo said that qualified applicants should have a 93 percent general average. However, the economic status of the scholars is also among the main things assessed to qualify for the scholarship. The eligibility and documentary requirements for the application are posted on the City Government of Davao's Facebook page. 

For the Scholarship for Tertiary Education Program (STEP), an applicant may be placed under any of the three categories: Part A: Php 25,000 per semester or Php 50,000 per school year; Part B: Php 20,000 per semester or Php 40,000 per school year, and Part C: 7,500 per semester or 15,000 per school year.

 Full scholarship for Medical School entitles a scholar to Php 160,000 per school year, including the Php 20,000 book allowance. Half scholars get Php 80,000 for tuition and, 10,000 for book allowance. Meanwhile, a full scholarship for Law School entitles a scholar to Php 50,000 per school year with an 8,000 book allowance. Half scholars get Php 25,000 per school year and Php 4,000 for book allowance. CIO
