DAVAO CITY - A total of P32 million worth of smuggled and fake cigarettes were confiscated and two men arrested in a joint police and military checkpoint in Barangay Lacson, Calinan, Davao City on Saturday, April 27.
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) reported that personnel of Calinan Police Station and Task Force Davao apprehended the suspects while passing through the established joint AFP/PNP fixed checkpoint onboard a Mitsubishi truck.
DCPO spokesman Captain Hazel Tuazon identified the suspects through their aliases as Elgene, 49 and a resident of Zamboanga del Sur and his helper Neil , 27.
The authorities seized from them a cargo truck loaded with some P32, 130,000 worth of illegal cigarettes to include 102 cigarette boxes composed of 30 boxes of New Aris, 33 boxes of Greenhill, and 32 boxes of Bros.
The suspects are now detained at Calinan PNP custodial facility while charges are being prepared against them.
