172 Jobseekers hired on the Spot at Kalayaan Job Fair in Davao City
DAVAO CITY – A total of 172 jobseekers were hired on the spot (HOTS) during the 2025 Kalayaan Job Fair held in celebration of the 127th Philippine Independence Day, themed “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.” The Davao leg of the nationwide simultaneous job fair was hosted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI on June 12, 2025, at SM City Davao-Annex, Ecoland, Davao City.

As early as 7:00 a.m., jobseekers flocked to the venue, where 21 local employers and 5 overseas employers offered a combined 2,545 job vacancies across various industries.

In his opening message, DOLE XI Regional Director Atty. Randolf C. Pensoy encouraged applicants to seize the opportunity. “To all applicants, I urge you to give your best in every job interview, as this serves as an opportunity for career growth and personal development.”

One of the jobseekers hired on the spot, Ms. Cheska Kate P. Arol, a senior high school graduate who secured a position as a cashier at SM Supermalls, shared herexcitement. “I feel really happy because this is my first time applying for a job and I got hired on the spot, despite my lack of experience.”

Among the top local positions filled during the event were cashiers, sales associates, and service crew.

In total, DOLE XI recorded 675 jobseekers in attendance, with 151 near-hires or applicants who are pending final interviews or submission of required documents.

Employer-partner Uniqlo Philippines, represented by Ms. Danica Drueco, Senior HR Manager, expressed appreciation for DOLE XI’s continued efforts. “We are grateful to DOLE for organizing this event. It’s helpful for employers and jobseekers to improve the economy further. We are also grateful to all jobseekers for choosing Uniqlo as their preferred employer.” Uniqlo Philippines offered 40 job vacancies and was able to hiresix (6) jobseekers on the spot and eight (8) who are near-hires.

As an added service to jobseekers, 14 partner government agencies participated in the One-Stop Service Shop to assist in the processing of essential employment documents. These included Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Migrant Workers (DMW),Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG), Land Transportation Office (LTO), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth), Public Employment Service Office (PESO), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), , Social Security System (SSS), and Technical Education and Skills Development (TESDA). 

To further support our jobseekers, the One-Stop Service Shop enables applicants to secure necessary documents on-site. We also offer various services, such as the Career Development Support Services (CDSP) and the DOLE Help Desk, which provide guidance on labor standards and relations, as well as information on DOLE emergency employment and livelihood assistance,” RD Pensoy added.

Ms. Leah P. Delarmente, SM City Davao Mall Manager, expressed her support for the activity as it aligns with their values of connecting with communities. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Department of Labor and Employment, Public Employment Services Office, and esteemed partners in local and national government agencies. Your commitment and collaboration allow us to bring job fairs closer to the communities across the country in SM Supermalls nationwide.”
