NPA leader, 7 others surrender in Sultan Kudarat

DAVAO CITY- A high ranking leader of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) and seven other members have surrendered to the government in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat on Wednesday (November 3).

Lieutenant Colonel Romel Valencia, commander of 7th Infantry Battalion, said that the surrenderers led by alias Simon, Platoon Commander of the NPA’s Central Musa, Guerilla Front Musa, Far South Mindanao Region (FSMR) also yielded an 7.62mm M14 rifle, two caliber .30 Garand rifles, a Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR), ond caliber .45 pistol, and two homemade 12 gauge shotgun.“With the close coordination and sustained government operations of both the military and the police forces of Bagumbayan and Senator Ninoy Aquino Municipal Police Stations, the former rebels were convinced to trust the government and to go back to the folds of the law,” Valencia added.

A total of 110 NPA have already surrendered to JTF Central in the Provinces of Sultan Kudarat, North and South Cotabato, and parts of Sarangani this year. The series of surrenders were realized through the full support of the Local Government Units, government agencies, non-government organizations, and members of the community which have significantly weakened the Communist Terrorist Group within JTF Central Joint Area of Operation.

Major General Juvymax Uy, Commander of the Joint Task Force Central and the 6th Infantry Division commended the efforts of the Local Government Units (LGUs) of Sultan Kudarat for their unwavering support in maintaining the peace and order situation of their municipalities.

“The surrender of the high ranking official of the Communist Terrorist Group and its members manifests that they have now realized there is no future in joining the NPA as more of their members continue to return to the mainstream society,” Uy said.
