Originally launched in March 2025 at the Art Resource Center Library and Gallery in La Herencia Davao, the MY TREE exhibition is curated by Ega Carreon, international artist and founder of Artists Initiative International. It features over 30 visual artists from the Philippines and abroad, each of whom selected a tree species endemic to the Philippines as their inspiration.
“When an artist paints a landscape, the scene often serves merely as a subject, and the connection between the artist and nature is not always apparent. This approach tends to follow a conventional artistic practice, where landscapes are created primarily for their aesthetic value,” says Carreon. “However, when one refers to it as "My Tree," the meaning changes. It becomes a personal statement of one's relationship with nature, revealing not only a sense of belonging but also a sincere concern for its protection.”
The opening program was held on July 4, 2025, hosted by Banoi Reyno, featured performances by the Tagum City Community Rondalla, and messages from Mr. Carreon and Ms. Alma L. Uy, President and Co-Chairperson of the Tagum City Tourism Arts & Culture Council.
