Street Dance showdown ends Kalivungan Festival 2024
AMAS, KIDAPAWAN CITY- The weeklong Kalivungan Festival 2024 in celebration of the 110th Founding Anniversary of North Cotabato Province ended Sunday (September 1) with the Street Dancing or Indak-Indak competition done with exuberant energy by the seven participating municipalities at the vast provincial capitol grounds.

The Provincial Grandstand was jampacked with a high-spirited crowd cheering for the various contingents in their bright-colored costumes dancing gracefully to the rhythm of drums and other musical instruments. Cheers grew louder until the announcement of the winners.

The seven participating municipalities were: Kabacan, Mlang, Kidapawan City, Libungan,Pikit, Banisilan, and Midsayap.

The Mlang National High School from the municipality of Mlang emerged as the Champion and Best in Musicality bagging P1 million prize.  The other winners are the following:

1stRunner Up: Midsayap - P700,000.00

2ndRunner Up: Kidapawan City - P500,000.00

ConsolationPrizes: P100,000.00

Kabacan,Libungan, Banisilan, Pikit

Best inCostume: Midsayap - P100,000.00

Best inStreet Parade: Midsayap - P100,000.00

 In her message, Governor Emmylou "Lala" J. Taliño-Mendoza congratulated the participants and reminded her constituents of the deeper meaning of the competition.

 “Let us not forget our roots and always look forward the competition here reminds us all that our culture our heritage add beauty to what Cotabato is today and as we look forward, we continue to do justice in whatever we do and to remain faithful towards ourselves our family our work and because of that we can reap all the sacrifices of all our efforts for a better Cotabato,” the governor said.

“This celebration is a reminder to all of us that our differences strengthen us. Let us not forget our past leaders who helped shape Cotabato into what it is today.”

This year, Kalivungan officially opened on August 26, when the Yaman ng Cotabato Travel and Trade Expo was launched. It showcases the province’s best products and bountiful harvests.

It was also during the opening, when the province distributed P50 million worth of Presidential Assistance to Farmers, Fisherfolk, and Families (PAFF) to 5,000 farmers at  P10,000 each.

Deputy Speaker at Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) Representative Raymond Democrito Mendoza and 3rd District Representative Ma. Alana Samantha T.Santos among other officials joined the Kalivungan finale.
