Mayor Sara Duterte made the announcement during her regular Monday interview with Davao City Disaster Radio. “ No events, padayon ang online, except for the distribution of financial aid and events related to emergencies,” Duterte said.
She clarified that though events are already allowed under Alert Level 2, these events especially those considered as “super covid spreader” should not emanate from the city government.
“Tanan kasikas mag gikan sa private sector since it is allowed under Alert Level 2 but not under our (city government) control,” Duterte added.
In the case of the Roxas Night Market, Duterte said, the city government is not keen on opening up the area saying it would surely gather numerous people . “Once it is opened, it will surely create mass gathering . As of today, dili pa akoang gut feel tapok tang tanan didto tungod sa kadugay sa pandemya nga hangtud karun naa pa gihapon ( not yet my gut feel we will all gather there due to the long period of pandemic which until now continues),” Duterte said.
Duterte said she prefers to leave it first to the private sector on the matter of holding events that would result in the gathering of people.
However, she reminded that once the private sector conducts events, it should ensure to follow the minimum health standards, proper ventilation, and make sure attendees are fully vaccinated. Judy Quiros
