Cu clinched the individual gold medal in a competition featuring over 30 participants, showcasing an impressive performance with 6.5 points in the seven-round Swiss system contest.

Throughout the tournament, Cu demonstrated his prowess, defeating notable opponents including Chanro Jed Atilano of Taguig/Pateros, Aron Joshua Toledo of Pasig City, and Andrew San Antonio of Pasig City in the initial rounds. Despite a draw against Marc Nemis of Parañaque City in the fourth round, Cu continued his winning streak by overcoming Cedric Kahlel Abris of Mandaluyong City, Joshua Roque of Manila, and Franklin Loyd Andes of Quezon City in subsequent rounds, securing the coveted title.

Leading his team in the 45-minute plus 30 seconds increment time control format, Cu's contributions were pivotal in leading San Juan City to claim the team gold medal, with his younger brother Jericho Winston Cu also contributing 3.5 points.
