DAVAO CITY — The Adamson University Soaring Falcon's preparation for the next UAAP college basketball championship is off to a great start.

The Falcons have gone undefeated after three games in the ongoing Kadayawan 2022 Invitational basketball tournament in Davao City.

The young and athletic Falcons beat their opponents, who are semi-professional basketball teams, including current Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League and Pilipinas Super League champion Davao Occidental Tigers.

The Falcons beat the Tigers 83-80 on Friday night at the University of Southeastern Philippines gymnasium.

The Falcons' rookie point guard, Jerom Lastimosa, hit a game-winning three-pointer at the top of the key with 4.6 seconds remaining to defeat the veteran-laden Tigers.

Lastimosa had a solid game with 19 points, highlighted by three-pointers, including the game-winning shot.

The Falcons' sharp-shooting big man, Vince Magbuhos, scored 29 points, including four three-pointers, to lead his team to victory.

With their unbeaten slate in the four-day tournament organized to celebrate the bountiful harvest of Davao City, the Falcons reached the tournament finals and will be played against Davao City on the evening of August 21 at the same venue.

While the Falcons are having a soaring performance in the tournament, their UAAP rivals, the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, are playing better than expected.

The Tamaraws have already been eliminated from championship contention after losing two of their three games in the tournament.

On Saturday evening, the team got demolished by the Tigers, 80-57.

Cebuano sharpshooter Emman Calo scored 11 points to carry his team to victory against their younger and less experienced opponents.

Young shooter Bryan Sajonia scored 13 points to lead the Tamaraws in a losing cause.

According to Tournament Director Miggy Solitaria, the winning team will receive P100,000, while the runners-up will receive P50,000, P40,000, P30,000, P20,000, and P10,000. (Romeo Braceros, Jr.)
