DAVAO CITY---After the departure of Monkayo, Davao de Oro scorer Rey Suerte, another promising basketball player from Suerte's hometown will try to help the University of the East Red Warriors be successful in the UAAP season 84 basketball wars which officially begins on March 26.

Guard Abdul Sawat, a resident of Bongbong, Pantukan is among the Warriors players head coach Jack Santiago is hopeful that can help the team achieve success this year.

It can be recalled that Suerte helped the Warriors be competitive in the UAAP season 83 and finished with a modest 4-10 win-loss record.

Suerte is now playing professionally in the PBA as a member of the Blackwater Bossing.

Now that Suerte is gone, Santiago is confident Sawat can duplicate in a way what his province mate did to their team.

Before donning the Warriors uniform, Sawat, 6'3 also previously played for the Jose Rizal University Bombers in the NCAA.

As a member of the Bombers, Sawat contributed to scoring and defense for the team. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
