The slam dunk contest will happen before the championship game on Sunday, August 21, at the University of Southeastern Philippines Multi-Purpose Gym.
Aside from the slam dunk contest and the games, some top professional basketball players are also expected to play in the four-day tournament.
In the weekly AFP-PNP Press Corps Press Conference held Wednesday at the Royal Mandaya Hotel, tournament Commissioner Pong Escobal said former Davao Occidental Tigers star player Mark Yee might play for Gensan in the tournament.
Escobal, a former San Beda Red Lions player during his NCAA days, said Ronnie Matias is also expected to play for the Davao City team.
He added that Zamboanga Valientes will parade homegrown players from Zamboanga.
Tournament Director Miggy Solitaria said the champion team would take home P100,000 while the runners-up will receive P50,000, P40,000, P30,000, P20,000, and P10,000.
The Davao Occidental Tigers, Adamson University Falcons, and Far Eastern University Tamaraws are three of the six teams competing in the basketball tournament.
The Falcons will use the tournament as preparation for the next UAAP men's college basketball wars.
The Falcons and Tamaraws will have their hands full in the tournament as they will be competing against four other semi-professional teams in the four-day tournament.
The first day of the tournament will be held at RMC Gym on August 18 (3:00 pm–9:00 pm), and the next three games will be held at USEP Gym on August 19–21 (3:00 pm–9:00 pm).
The tournament is open to the public for free.
The tournament is also interesting as the Racela brothers, Nash and Olsen, are set to face each other again in a pre-season UAAP tournament.
Since his team, led by spitfire Jerom Lastimosa, is doing well in preseason basketball tournaments, Nash feels confident facing the other teams in the game.
Olsen, for his part, is also confident of his team's chances in the tournament since the Tamaraws are always a traditional basketball powerhouse. (Romeo Braceros, Jr.)
