DAVAO CITY---Cooperating government entities - Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), and Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) - launched the 2023 Philippine ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Games at the Lapu-Lapu Grandstand in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

Jose Faustino Jr., Department of Defense's undersecretariat officer in charge, oversaw the signing of the agreement.

The other signatories to the agreement were Faustino, who was chosen to lead the newly established Philippine ROTC Games Executive Organizing Committee; AFP chief Lieutenant General Bartolome Vicente Bacarro; CHED Chair Dr. Prospero de Vera III; PSC Chair Jose Emmanuel "Noli" Eala; and a delegate of Atty. Wharton Chan, the POC's chief legal officer, is a business representative.

According to Bacarro, all of them will serve as members of the organizing committee for the sportsfest, which aims to promote pride in one's country, discipline, collaboration, and perfection while acting as a fresh breeding ground for exceptional athletes for worldwide competition.

Senator Francis Tolentino, a brigadier general in the Army reserve who was the driving force behind the initiative to increase engagement among college students in both ROTC and sports, witnessed the MOA signing and the official beginning of the Philippine ROTC Games.

“The utilization of sports as a platform to propagate the ROTC program is both remarkable and brilliant for developing a healthy and alert citizenry,” Eala said.

“It (the Philippine ROTC Games) not only provides a viable format for training our young people towards their basic patriotic duty to the country but is also an avenue for a new, diverse and massed platform for our country’s grassroots development program,” Eala added.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
