While the athletes did not play for Sambo since the SEAG organizers decided to scrap the sport this year, they still contributed medals while playing in Kon Bokator, a traditional Cambodian martial art, and wrestling.
The Sambo athletes got one gold medal, three silvers, and one bronze in the biennial sports event.
Ron Catalan won the gold medal in Bokator.
The silver medals were won by Marianne Mariano for bokator, Geli Bulaong for bokator, and Davaoeno Chino Sy for wrestling.
The bronze medal was won by Godwin Langbayan, also for Bokator.
Pilipinas Sambo founder and president Paolo Tancontian is pleased and proud of the achievements of his athletes.
Tancontian, a proud Davaoeno, is hopeful Sambo will participate in the 2024 Southeast Asian Games.
He said Sambo athletes are set to compete in more international tournaments this year. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
