Panaboan NM richer by P10K after ruling GM Balinas Rapid chess tourney
DAVAO CITY---A promising young national master from Panabo City, Davao del Norte, won the tough 81st Birthday of GM/Lawyer Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr., 14-year-old and under kiddies rapid chess tournament on September 10, at the 2nd floor Open Kitchen Foodhall, Rockwell Business Center, Sheridan Street, Mandaluyong City.

NM Christian Gian-Karlo Arca went undefeated in the 7-round Swiss system tournament.

Tetsuri Ikemoto, David Francis Modesto, Jian Carlo Rivera, National Master Ivan Travis Cu, Jersey Marticio, National Master Oshrie Jhames Reyes, and National Master Al-Basher "Basty" Buto are among many whom Arca has crushed.

Arca won the top prize of P10,000 and a medal in the tournament, which had 108 participants.

Earlier, Ms. China Aurelio of Open Kitchen and NM Arca made the ceremonial moves to begin the one-day National Chess Federation of the Philippines sanctioned tournament, which was also graced by Ms. Mimi Casas of Open Kitchen, NM Cu, NM Reyes, Woman National Master Ruelle Canino, Fide Master Alekhine Fabiosa Nouri, NCFP board of director Martin "Binky" Gaticales, and Chief Arbiter NA Ran (PACC).

Arca will compete in the Asian Youth Chess Championships, held in Bali, Indonesia, from October 13 to 22, 2022.

Arca was just selected as the newest Dasmarinas Cavite Chess team member.

Dasmarinas chess team head Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr. chose Arca as the newest team member, which includes some of the Philippines' top young chess players.

As its newest member, Dasmarinas has made the team considerably more challenging to beat.

Arca accepted Barzaga's offer to join his squad because it would substantially benefit his budding chess career. (Romeo Braceros, Jr.)
