On Sunday night, in front of the jampacked University of Southeastern Philippines gymnasium in Obrero, this city, the Falcons won the Kadayawan 2022 Invitational basketball tournament after beating host Davao City with a squeaker 71-69 win.
The Falcons had a dominant run in the tournament, winning all four of their games against the older semi-professional teams, including the current Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League and Pilipinas Super League champion Davao Occidental Tigers.
Falcon's young guard, Jerom Lastimosa, scored 23 points to lead his team to victory against Davao, who were made up of players from the MPBL.
With his game-long brilliance, Lastimosa was also voted the tournament's most valuable player.
The championship also rewarded the Falcons with a P100,000 cash prize.
In the four-day tournament, Lastimosa also captured the heart of the Davaoenos with his great moves on the court.
In a losing cause, Moncrief Rogado scored 16 points for Davao.
Meanwhile, the Tigers finished third in the tournament after beating another UAAP team, the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 81-78.
Cebuano shooter Emman Calo scored 23 points to lead his team to victory against the young and aggressive Tamaraws.
LG Gonzales scored 13 points to lead the Tamaraws in defeat.
