DAVAO CITY—The elementary chess team of The Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) is still making waves in the ongoing Davao Regional Athletic Association chess championship, amidst the sweltering heat and frequent power outages on the picturesque island.

Thanks to Ralz Jaweh B. Devibar for the elementary individual level and Joriel James Yap & Devibar Ralz for the elementary team, Team IGACOS earned two additional gold medals in the elementary chess standard on Wednesday.

Ralz and Yap, the IGACOS Waves had previously won two gold medals in the blitz Individual Ralz Jaweh B. Devibar elementary team and individual levels. AglipayEight Arceno Oberio, a former De Lasalle University varsity chess player, is the team coach.

Overall the team has won six medals in chess.

Oberio is ecstatic and immensely proud of his boys' accomplishments amid the obstacles they faced to win multiple gold medals.

Oberio, a champion player and one of the best players in the Philippines, is a worker of the Department of Public Works and Highways (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
