DAVAO CITY---The Davao City-based school Jose Maria College Lady Royals made a splash in the ongoing Shakey's Super League National Invitational Tournament on July 30 at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
The Royals stunned the NCAA second placer Lyceum Lady Pirates in four sets for their first win in the tournament participated in by some of the top college volleyball teams in the country.
The Royals beat the Pirates 24-26, 25-19, 25-22, and 26-24.
Johma Mae Palero top-scored for the Royals in their shocking win over the Lyceum Lady Pirates and was named the MVP of the Match.
Schools were divided into four pools with three teams competing in a single round-robin format.
The top two teams from each pool will advance to the knockout quarterfinals. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
