Jem Zyrus Talledo, a member of the National Referees Commission (NARECOM), got the chance to officiate the final four since he is part of the referees officiating the ongoing UAAP season 84 college basketball competition.
Four promising basketball players who made a name in local leagues are currently playing for the Dela Salle University Green Archers college basketball team in the UAAP season 84.
The four players who are playing for La Salle in the UAAP college basketball competition are former Ateneo de Davao University High School basketball star Francis Escandor, Holy Child College of Davao high school scorer Deo Cuajao, National University High school backup center, and Barangay Maa resident Aaron Buensalida, and Holy Cross of Davao College Crusaders lanky center Paul Turco.
Escandor is the most veteran member of La Salle among the four since he had played for the team in the previous UAAP seasons. Cuajao will play his first season for La Salle after playing previously for Sto. Tomas Glowing Tigers in the recent UAAP season.
The 6'1 gunner decided to transfer to La Salle due to the controversy that rocked the Tiger's team last year, which caused the resignation of UAAP champion coach Aldin Ayo.
Buensalida on the other hand accepted the offer to play for La Salle since he loves the school and the chance to play for more significant minutes after his colorful career in the UAAP high school basketball wars for many times champion NU.
For Turco, he took the offer to play for La Salle so that he could fulfill his dream of playing in the PBA in the future. Considered one of the top centers in local leagues here, Turco, a native of General Santos City, is expected to provide rebounding and bench scoring for the team once the UAAP opens its new season in 2022.
The inclusion of the four Davaoeno basketball stars in the roster of La Salle strongly indicates that some of the best basketball talents in the Philippines can be found here. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
