Davao's Filipino American lefty guard Jeremy Arthur scored 23 points, including some crucial free throws in the game's dying seconds, to carry Davao to an upset win against the FEU powerhouse Tamaraw, coached by PBA legend Olsen "Rahrah" Racela.
As expected, the game between the two teams was tight from start to finish.
The Tamaraws, who are using the tournament to prepare for the upcoming UAAP wars, used their youth and athletic ability to stay competitive in the game against Davao, mostly MPL players.
In a losing cause, Rodel Gravera scored 17 points for the Tamaraws.
For their part, the Adamson Falcons beat General Santos Bulalakaw 89-57.
Falcons ping-pong guard Jerom Lastimosa scored 19 points to carry his team to victory.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Ojjuola scored 21 points for the Bulalakaw.
The current MPBL and Pilipinas Super League champion, Davao Occidental Tigers, defeated Zamboanga Valientes 86-65 in the main game.
Former University of the Philippines college standout Diego Dario scored 16 points to carry his team to victory against the Valientes.
Sharpshooter Rodel Vaygan scored 12 points for the Valientes in a losing cause.
Tournament Director Miggy Solitaria said the champion team would take home P100,000 while the runners-up will receive P50,000, P40,000, P30,000, P20,000, and P10,000. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
